It’s no secret that food makes people happy. Too much food, the wrong kind or the poorly made kind, not so much, but it’s amazing to see how much happiness we can derive from a plate of comforting calories.
Last weekend, Courtney Clark (@courtneytex on Instagram) and her partner, Marty Kawa, ate at Counter Cafe on North Lamar Boulevard, and Clark said her quinoa, beet, black bean and cheddar burger, topped with a fried egg and served with sweet potato fries, was enough to make her day. (You can see where else they love to eat on their blog, phatfoodies.com.)
A few days later, on the other side of town, Leslie Lopez (@gingerbirds) found her happy place at Nasha, a somewhat new restaurant at 1614 E. Seventh St. that pops up in #Austin360Eats more than just about every other Indian restaurant in town. She and a friend were there for happy hour, where you can get half-priced appetizers like these Szechuan chicken skewers.
I had my own moment of bliss recently at the newly opened Guantanamera, 6800 West Gate Blvd., where my date and I split a Cubano sandwich filled with tender pork, tangy mustard, pickles and fresh bread, pressed to perfection.
