If Hatch Lime Cheesecake sounds good to you, your favorite time of year is upon us.

Hatch chile season officially starts this week with Central Market’s 20th annual August fete, which will feature more than 100 Hatch products and prepared foods, including that cheesecake, in stores throughout the state.

hatchprimizieOther grocery stores have Hatch chiles, too, but few make as big a deal out of them as Central Market. The North Austin location will host Hatch chile cooking classes, and both stores will be selling freshly roasted chiles. If you’re not sure what to do with these signature Anaheim chiles from a small town in New Mexico, check out the website (centralmarket.com/hatch) for roasting tips and countless recipes. Central Market also has a community cookbook of Hatch recipes that’s worth picking up.

Whole Foods starts a similar in-store festival the following week, and Chuy’s annual Hatch menu debuts on Aug. 17. In the grocery store, you’ll find Hatch kale chips from Rhythm Superfoods and Hatch-flavored Primizie chips. I’ll keep you posted if I find any other cool new Hatch products.
