In the past few years, we’ve seen a boom in local farmers markets, and one of the newest to open — the Texas Farmers’ Market at the Domain, which started in May — has closed.

Market manager Carla Jenkins says that Central Texas farmers faced an extremely hard year, starting with a slow spring, followed by flooding rains in May and then a typically hot summer, which prevented them from being able to expand to another weekend market.

“We are committed to running markets with a strong foundation of farmer and producer vendors and look forward to continuing our existing markets at Lakeline and Mueller, which collectively average more than 7,000 shoppers each weekend,” she said in a release, adding that there is a possibility that the market will return in April of next year.

The hours at the Texas Farmers’ Market at Mueller, currently 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sundays, will revert back to 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sept. 6. You can find out more about the markets at texasfarmersmarket.org.
