Green Gate Farms’ future uncertain amid plans for home development

Should Green Gate Farms’ land be used for luxury RVs and manufactured homes?

The owners of the 5-acre certified organic farm in far East Austin are hosting a press conference this morning to address what’s been happening in the months since a developer bought 250 acres in eastern Travis County, including the property that Erin Flynn and Skip Connett have been farming since 2006.

Roberts Resorts is the name of the Arizona-based manufactured home developer that has plans to turn the property near Decker Lane into, according to the farmers, a gated complex for luxury RVs and manufactured homes. Green Gate has a farmstand three days a week and is the home of the New Farm Institute, a farmer education program, as well as a 1902 farmhouse originally owned by the Bergstrom family.
