Local food, product delivery company Coterie Market closes

Last week, Chelsea Staires Sun, the owner of a local food and product delivery service called Coterie Market, announced that she was closing her business after three years.

Last fall, Sun had launched a subscription box featuring Austin-made goods, but it wasn’t enough to support the ever-growing operating costs, Sun says.

“As a bootstrapped small, local business, the reasons are many and complicated for why we had to close, but ultimately we weren’t able to bring in enough sales,” she says. “I’m incredibly grateful for the opportunity to build Coterie Market, and I feel so lucky to have been able to work with Austin’s makers and community for almost four years. I’m hoping to keep the website going and continue to serve Austin’s creative class in a different way.”

All told, they shipped to customers in 50 states and worked with more than 100 artisans in Austin. Customers who paid for a subscription beyond January will receive a refund.
