On Saturday, more than 100 home bakers in the Austin area — many of whom are also food bloggers — hosted a citywide bake sale that raised an eyebrow-raising amount of money.
This is the seventh sale for Austin Bakes, a loosely organized group that comes together after a local, national or international disaster to raise money for victims.
Last weekend’s sale was the second biggest yet. After raising more than $19,000 for the folks in West after the 2013 explosion, the group announced that raised $18,727.71 this time around by selling baked goods at nine locations around Central Texas, as well as T-shirts and other merchandise online. All of the money raised is going to Hurricane Harvey relief efforts via Americares.
That brings the total amount of money raised through Austin Bakes to nearly $80,000.
That’s a lot of sugar cookies and cupcakes for a good cause.
