For a few weeks now, I’ve been doing a Periscope live stream at noon on Wednesdays.
It’s been a fun way to give a glimpse of my life as a food writer and talk about what’s in that day’s food section and what we’re working on for the following week.
Remember those Austin360 Taste Test videos we were doing about a year ago? I’ve moved that taste test concept over to the livestream, which thanks to a new service called Katch, I can embed into a blog post. (Those of you who are hip to the Periscope know that the app only allows the videos to be seen for 24 hours after they are published. Katch is a game-changer for those of us who are interested in livestreaming but didn’t like how inaccessible the streams were.)
This week, I tried World Peas’ new fava bean crisps, toasted hemp seeds from Happy Hemp and talked about making pancakes with another Austin product, Positively Pancakes from Bona Dea. Oh, and I complained about STILL not having received my shipment of Soylent 2.0 that I ordered in September when I was writing about the food-replacement drink.
Sure enough, what arrives in the mail just after I finished the livestream? Soylent.
I’ll do my best not to crack into the bottles until next week’s video, but I can’t make any promises….
